Introduction

As part of the JISC RSC West Midlands commitment to raising awareness for Accessibility and Inclusion we invited Specialist Colleges to take part in a Second Life Project. The JISC RSC West Midlands have been using an island in the virtual world, Second Life ™.We have seen that Second Life offers many different experiences and felt that this would increase learning opportunities for students with learning difficulties.

Aims of the project

Two learning providers from the West Midlands region trialled Second Life with a learner in their organisations. They were then asked to report their findings back to the RSC with a view to the report being written into a full case study for publication on the Excellence Gateway or in RSC publications.

To help with the report process and to overcome technical difficulties, the providers used a MacBook Pro to access Second Life. Each provider also produced a short report on the equipment they used and provided extra evidence like images or video to support their case study.
